Fiber Laser Cutting for HVAC Fabrication

Where HVAC shops lose hours

HVAC fabrication is a volume-and-variety problem. Every job has transitions, elbows, offsets, and one-off fittings that don't match anything you made last week. Shops that still lay out by hand, shear, and nibble spend more time on layout and cleanup than on actual production.

Galvanized adds its own headache. Plasma and mechanical cutting leave burrs and edge damage on coated stock, which means deburring before anyone can safely handle a part, and touch-up where the coating got torn up.

And because most duct work goes straight to a brake or a roller, a sloppy blank compounds. An out-of-square blank becomes an out-of-square fitting becomes a field problem.

Nesting instead of laying out

A fiber laser turns a fitting pattern into a nested program. Flat patterns for transitions, taps, and collars get nested tight on a sheet, cut with bend lines and part marks, and come off ready for the brake. Layout by hand disappears from the process.

On galvanized and stainless, fiber leaves a clean, square edge with minimal burr, so parts are safe to handle and ready for forming without a pass at the deburring bench.

Most HVAC shops pair an enclosed shuttle-table laser with a CNC press brake in the 4'–12' width range. Cut the blank, form it, move it — no outside vendor, no waiting.

Take the layout step out, take the deburring step out, and cut nesting scrap down with tighter part packing — three separate labor and material recoveries on the same job.

The scheduling gain matters just as much. Contract HVAC work runs on jobsite dates, and being able to cut a fitting the day the field calls for it is what keeps your crews from standing around.
